Cracked Teeth

Cracked teeth are becoming more common as people are keeping their teeth longer.

Signs include:

  • Sharp pain on biting or after release
  • Sensitivity on eating sweet foods
  • Pain on chewing
  • Tooth extra sensitive to hot or cold
  • Can see a visible crack
  • Tooth is rough

Cracked teeth can be caused by:
Tooth Decay – When a tooth has decay and still after the tooth has been repaired with restorative materials, the tooth is weakened and more prone to a fracture
Grinding – also known as Bruxism, is a habit of grinding or clenching of the teeth, this action can cause cracking or grinding wear on the teeth.

Treatment for Cracked Teeth: Depending on the severity of the crack and assessment of the biting force on the tooth, treatment can vary from a simple restorative material or a CEREC or Porcelain Crown.
